He Evaded Spanish Justice for 16 Years, but His Arrival in Ceuta Brought Him Down

The man had reached Ceuta on July 30 and had been living on Trampolín beach ever since. On Sunday, a dispute with a resident of Benzú prompted military intervention, and they held him until the Guardia Civil arrived.

It was when his identity was being checked that his judicial past resurfaced. According to El Faro de Ceuta, his fingerprints triggered an alert in Spanish databases.

A judicial procedure dating back to 2010

Court No. 8 of Torrejón de Ardoz, in the Madrid region, had issued a search, arrest and appearance warrant against him. It was linked to proceedings opened in 2010 concerning, among other matters, a sexual assault case and an offense against authority.

This does not mean that the man had been convicted of these acts. El Faro specifies that the justice system had been trying for years to locate him in order to notify him of a decision whose exact nature has not been made public.

The individual was in Morocco before joining Ceuta during the events of July 30. Once his identity had been confirmed, the Guardia Civil arrested him to enforce the Madrid court’s order.
