Moroccan Man Shocks Family by Returning Home During His Own Funeral After COVID-19 Misdiagnosis

A fifty-year-old man, victim of respiratory problems, was taken care of as a Covid-19 patient in Nador. While the doctors announced his death, the deceased returned home to the great astonishment of his family and friends who had come to honor his memory.

The story broke when the victim, in his fifties, left his home to have a coffee in the neighborhood. An anonymous call minutes later announced his discomfort, inviting his son to join his father at the emergency room of the provincial hospital. When he arrived at the hospital, the emergency room staff told him that his father had been admitted to intensive care for Covid-19 management. Despite his explanations to convince the medical staff that his father was rather suffering from respiratory problems and should even be operated on at the university hospital center in Oujda next April, nothing worked.

On site, the nurses informed him that the decision had been made by a panel of doctors. Even the medical certificates confirming that his father was suffering from a respiratory illness did not dissuade the medical staff who admitted the patient to the Covid-19 ward.

After seeing his father in a wheelchair at the hospital, he was told a quarter of an hour later of his death, with the prohibition of seeing him for precautionary reasons. The doctors invited the young man to come back the next day to collect the body.

Back home and as he was preparing with his family and friends to organize his father’s funeral, the latter appeared not far from the house. According to Assabah, he was very weak and hungry and could barely speak a few words. According to him, the doctors would have forgotten him in a room before another discovered him and invited him to return home.
