Moroccan Man Expelled from Spain After Violent Knife Attack in Ceuta

The Criminal Court of Ceuta sentenced on Monday a Moroccan who violently attacked with a knife a Ceuta national to two years in prison and to pay compensation of 11,776.55 euros. The prison sentence was then replaced by the expulsion of the convicted person from Spanish territory for a period of five years.

The Moroccan was prosecuted for serious bodily harm. The events took place in the early morning of October 30, 2020 when A.E.G., accompanied by another man who was also arrested, "attacked a Ceuta national with two knives," causing him serious facial injuries.

According to the indictment of the public prosecutor’s office, the victim suffered serious injuries that required surgical intervention and resulted in 7 stitches. For these damages suffered, he will receive compensation of 11,776.55 euros, reports El Pueblo de Ceuta.

The hearing on Monday did not take place as the parties had agreed on a prior agreement. The defendant admitted the facts for which he has been detained since last year and the judge accordingly handed down his judgment. The prosecution had requested a 3-year prison sentence against the Moroccan. But with the agreement, it was reduced to two years. In the event of expulsion to Morocco, given the situation of border closures, the convicted person’s sentence will be suspended for a period of two years during which he will not be able to commit any punishable acts.
