Moroccan-Led International Team Develops Smart Mechanical Ventilator Prototype

Moroccan researchers have teamed up with their Portuguese and Brazilian counterparts to develop a respiratory assistance solution, in the form of an intelligent mechanical ventilator.
The Institute of Research in Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN) stated that it is a "multidisciplinary team that has formed an international consortium (Morocco, Portugal and Brazil), involving research centers and startups namely, IRESEN, Green Energy Park, ENSET, ESSTI, EDEEP, 2SMP, INESC TEC Portugal and INESC P&D Brazil". The objective is to "develop an intelligent mechanical ventilator, whose first prototype has been produced and improved thanks to the involvement of healthcare professionals".
The product is called iVENT-V1 and is a non-invasive mechanical ventilator which "is characterized by an air flow regulation and can adapt to the respiratory cycle of each patient and control the inspiration/expiration time", explains the same source. It should be noted that this system has been designed to "allow local, affordable and rapid production". This is good news for Morocco, because this product of international design and local manufacturing and production "promises to meet an increased need for respiratory assistance solutions in this context of a global health crisis".
A small quantity of this ventilator will be produced in the coming days and will be tested by healthcare professionals in Morocco, Portugal and Brazil, in order to prepare for certification to international standards.
