Moroccan Lawmaker Removed from Office Amid Legal Scandal in Sidi Slimane

Deputy Yassine Radi, a member of the Union Constitutionnelle (UC) party, will not resume the leadership of the municipal council of Sidi Slimane. This is the decision of the Administrative Court of Appeal of Rabat, which confirmed his dismissal.

The stars are not aligned for Yassine Radi. After the legal proceedings initiated against him for debauchery, concealment of evidence, obstruction of justice and false declarations, he lost his seat as president of the municipal council of Sidi Slimane. On Thursday, the Administrative Court of Appeal of Rabat endorsed the dismissal of the UC (Union Constitutionnelle) elected official, reports the Arabic-language daily Al Akhbar, adding that a similar judgment had already been rendered in the first instance.

In May, the elected official had been dismissed on the basis of a complaint from the provincial governor. After its transmission to the parties concerned, the decision of the administrative court of appeal will be notified to the Constitutional Court. The latter should, in turn, deprive Radi of his seat as a deputy, which will open the way for new elections to replace him.

After the confirmation of Yassine Radi’s dismissal, the Regional Brigade of the Judicial Police of Rabat should hear in the coming days officials like the former president of the municipal council, Tarik Laaroussi, cited in an audit report on the dysfunctions noted in the management of the municipality. Laaroussi is held responsible for a good part of the dysfunctions.
