Moroccan Journalist Hajar Raïssouni's Trial Verdict Delayed Until September 30

The Court of First Instance in Rabat has decided to take the "Hajar Raïssouni" case under advisement until September 30. The flagrante delicto is nevertheless maintained despite the presentation of formal requests by the journalist’s defense.

Despite the requests made by the defense for the acquittal of the accused, and their intervention after the judge gave them the floor at the end of the hearing, the court remained intransigent, arguing that the situation of flagrante delicto, in addition to the "habitual" nature of its practices by the doctor accused, is sufficient to maintain the prosecution.

According to Hespress, the hearing lasted 9 hours and the court rejected all the defense’s requests in this case where Hajar Raïssouni, her fiancé, a gynecologist, his assistant and an anesthesia technician are being prosecuted for illegal abortion.

In an effort to silence the rumors, the Prosecutor’s Office assured that the journalist’s case is distinct from any political coloring and has no connection with her status as a journalist.

It reassured that, since the beginning of this case, the accused have been able to enjoy all the rights guaranteed by law. The "Hajar Raïssouni" case dates back to August 31, when the young woman was arrested by plainclothes police and referred to the Attorney General for "abortion" and "sexual relations outside of marriage". She was with her fiancé at the time of her arrest.
