Moroccan Imam Suspended After Criticizing Israel-Morocco Normalization

Banned from the Friday sermon for having criticized the normalization of relations between Morocco and Israel, El Alami Chettat, also a secondary school teacher, has just suffered a new sanction.
The professor of Islamic doctrine, who had been working for 10 years in three traditional and modern educational institutions, was suspended from his duties by the Ministry of Habous, reports Alyaoum24.
The decision came a week after the sermon, the same source continues, noting that El Alami Chettat received several messages of sympathy and solidarity from his students and colleagues.
On December 18 in Tangier, the imam had mentioned in his sermon the consequences of the resumption of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel on the Muslim community.
In Morocco, all sermons delivered in mosques are validated by the Ministry of Habous and Religious Affairs. In the past, many imams have been sanctioned or dismissed from their duties for deviating from the official discourse.
