Moroccan Imam Arrested for Alleged Rape of Disabled Woman During ’Healing’ Ritual

A new case of charlatanism in Morocco with the arrest last week of an imam accused of sexually assaulting a young disabled woman.
Imam at the Sidi Balgit mosque, in the El Hajeb region, the religious leader is accused of having raped a 21-year-old woman suffering from a physical disability, reports the newspaper Al Massae. The man is said to have, according to the daily, promised her parents to heal their daughter through "Roqya Char3iya".
The charlatan was caught in the act by a relative of the young woman who then alerted the gendarmerie. First placed in custody at the gendarmerie, he was then incarcerated in the local prison of Toulal.
This case comes a few weeks after the scandal of the raqui of Berkane, currently in prison, accused of having abused several women who came to be "treated".
