Moroccan Imam Arrested for Alleged Rape of Minor in Taroudant Region
New case of sexual assault on a minor in Morocco with the arrest by the gendarmerie yesterday of an imam in the Taroudant region for the rape of a minor.
Citing associative sources on the spot, the site le360 reports the arrest in Ighrem of a muezzin suspected of having sexually abused a minor girl, specifying that this case dates back to last month when the religious man had been caught in flagrante delicto with a girl in a premises where he stored wood.
Married, the muezzin had tried, still according to the same source, to hush up the matter, but the girl’s parents decided to take the matter to court and the investigation conducted by the gendarmerie resulted in the arrest of the religious man yesterday.
Last month, the Marrakech Court of Appeal had sentenced an imam to a sentence of 5 years in prison as well as a fine of 50,000 dirhams and 10,000 dirhams for each of his 7 victims, all minors aged 8 to 16 years old.
