Moroccan Imam Arrested for Social Media Post Against Pope’s Visit

The surveillance cell of the Moroccan police has just submitted to the justice system the file of an imam residing in Temara, in the outskirts of Rabat, following his remarks published on his Facebook page.
According to the newspaper Assabah, the religious figure is accused of having published a text calling on parents not to allow their children to go to the Moulay Abdellah sports complex in Rabat to welcome Pope Francis during his visit to Morocco on Saturday and Sunday.
As soon as this message was disseminated, the police managed to locate its author. He is a young imam who was invited to explain the content of his message and his call against the pope. The latter claimed that he was not the author and that he had only shared a publication on the social network. The author of the message was also summoned and gave the same response to the police, claiming that he was not the author and that he had only shared it.
The justice system decided to end their custody and order the continuation of the investigation to arrest the real author of this call, who will of course have to explain himself before the justice system for his remarks.
