Moroccan households could soon sell electricity

The proposal was detailed by Mohamed Chouki, president of the RNI, during the presentation of the 2026-2031 programme. In its official report, the party plans a national programme enabling households to meet their needs with solar panels and sell the electricity produced in excess.

The installation would be offered without an initial payment. Its cost would then be repaid gradually through the savings made on the electricity bill. At this stage, the scheme remains an electoral promise: its terms, the purchase price for the electricity and the access conditions have not yet been specified.

Produce, consume, then sell the surplus

The stated aim is to turn some households into small electricity producers. When their panels produced more than they consumed, the surplus could be fed into and sold to the grid.

The RNI had already presented this measure on 24 June in Oujda before highlighting it again this week in its programme for the 2026-2031 legislative term. At the same time, it promises to protect low-income households from sharp fluctuations in energy prices.

The measure will nevertheless require a precise framework to organise the connection of domestic installations, the metering of injected electricity and its remuneration. No start date has been announced for the time being.
