Moroccan Grandparents Seek Embassy Help to Locate Grandson After Mother's Murder in Spain

The parents of Imane Saadaoui, the young Moroccan woman killed by her husband on November 1 in Cáceres (Valencia), are asking the Moroccan embassy in Madrid for help in recovering their 14-month-old grandson, placed under the guardianship of the Extremadura council after the tragic drama.

Imane’s parents, Moustapha and Malika Saadaoui, have written a letter to the Moroccan embassy in Madrid to ask them to help them regularize the situation of their grandson, born in Spain but not yet having obtained Spanish nationality. At the time of his mother’s death, the 14-month-old baby held a residence permit and enjoyed Moroccan nationality from his parents, reports Hoy.

Imane’s family is asking the embassy for help in first finding the child. "No one has contacted us. We don’t know exactly where the child is and we have no news of him," they lament, specifying that they have sent an email to the Directorate General of Childhood and Family of the Extremadura Council to this effect. Without success.

Imane’s father went to the Spanish consulate in Rabat on Monday to get more information, but he was only told that "contact is being maintained with the Spanish authorities." Imane’s parents, with whom her eldest daughter from a previous relationship lives, are considering going to Spain to obtain custody of the child.

In addition, Imane’s parents denounce an attempted fraud regarding the repatriation of her body, which must remain on Spanish territory until the end of the ongoing investigation. They claim to have been contacted by people asking for a power of attorney from Imane’s father to bury the young woman in Spain, in exchange for a sum of money.
