Moroccan Gendarmerie Busts Livestock Theft Ring, 3 Arrested in Berrechid Province
The elements of the Royal Gendarmerie of Had Soualem in the province of Berrechid dismantled a criminal network specialized in livestock theft during the night of Sunday. In total, three people were arrested.
The investigation, conducted under the supervision of the regional commander of the Royal Gendarmerie of Settat, led to the arrest of the three members of this gang. Aged 26 to 50, they were apprehended near their homes in the Al Asilat douar, Sahel Oulad Ahriz commune, according to sources at the online media Kech24.
The dismantling of this criminal network was made possible thanks to the images of a surveillance camera installed in one of the stables targeted by the criminals to steal livestock. The investigators were able to identify the suspects on the images, which facilitated their arrest. The searches carried out on these criminals in the database also allowed the agents to discover that one of the accused has a long criminal record, having already served prison sentences abroad for illegal immigration and qualified theft, among others.
The three defendants were taken into custody, pending the results of the investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office in Settat. They were presented on Tuesday to the Attorney General, who notified them of the charges against them and ordered their detention.
