Moroccan Fuel Prices Surge Amid Ukraine Crisis, Angering Motorists

A nasty surprise at the pump for Moroccan motorists. Fuel prices have soared again, reaching 14.18 dirhams per liter for gasoline, and approaching 12 dirhams for diesel.
While the Russia-Ukraine crisis has driven up crude oil prices, pump prices continue to rise, sparking the anger of Moroccans. These prices are even higher in other cities due to the cost of transportation.
This exceptional and continuous increase over the past few weeks seems set to continue, according to analysts on the Casablanca Stock Exchange. "It is highly likely that the price of diesel will continue its upward trend in the coming weeks if the Ukrainian crisis is not resolved quickly," they warned.
For its part, the government had promised to find "appropriate solutions" to mitigate the effects of this rise in crude oil prices on the freight and other transport sectors. One of the solutions is the subsidy granted to truck drivers.
