Moroccan Firm to Invest $3.3 Billion in Niger’s ’Smart City’ Project

The Moroccan group Ymmy Finance Holding in partnership with the Nigerien authorities wants to build a "smart city" in the capital for an amount, it is said, of 3.3 billion dollars.
With a total investment of $3.3 billion, the initiative is part of the Niamey Niala project. The latter aims to position this West African capital as one of the most beautiful on the continent, said Ahmed Lotfi, president of the Moroccan group, in front of the officials of the municipality of Niamey.
In total, six projects, "Smart city", "Solar streetlights", "New city", "Agri-food", "Industrial zone" and "Education". The first phase of financing would have already been completed and amounts to $516 million. The construction work will extend over a period of eight years.
Detailing the content of these various projects, the official indicated that for "Smart City", it is a project built on 105 hectares on the corniche, along the Niger River. All of this will be part of public-private partnership contracts.
