Moroccan Father of Three Dies After Falling into Abandoned Well Near Chefchaouen

A man died on Saturday after falling into a well in a village in the province of Chefchaouen.
The death of this man, father of three children, recalls the case of Rayan, the 5-year-old boy who died in early 2022 after falling into a well near Chefchaouen. The victim fell into a narrow and abandoned well while trying to draw water to water his plants.
Alerted after the incident, the local authorities, accompanied by Royal Gendarmerie agents, quickly went to the scene. The rescue teams managed to retrieve the victim’s body from the well, which was then transferred to the morgue of the regional hospital in Chefchaouen.
An investigation has been opened by the Royal Gendarmerie to determine the causes of the fall and the death of the victim. This new death brings back the eternal problem of securing wells in Morocco.
