Moroccan Farmer Faces Trial for Brutal Donkey Mutilation, Sparks Outrage

The public prosecutor’s office of the court of first instance in Zagora has announced its decision to prosecute at liberty the farmer who amputated the hind legs of a donkey near Zagora. The defendant was released after paying a bail of 2,000 dirhams.

The case broke out on Monday, after the dissemination on social networks of a photo showing a donkey amputated of its hind legs. After investigations, it was discovered that the farmer had subjected the donkey to torture using a sharp object because the animal had entered his field in search of straw, reports Hespress.

Internet users have expressed their outrage and anger following the publication of the photo of the mutilated donkey, condemning the odious act of the farmer. Animal rights organizations and associations in Morocco have announced that legal action will be taken against this farmer so that he is held accountable for his actions.

An association has also stated that it should also seize the government to request a revision of the legal and regulatory framework relating to the protection of animals. This initiative aims to toughen the criminal penalties against persons found guilty of animal abuse.
