Moroccan Farm Workers Flown to Corsica Under Special Protocol to Save Crops

Friday 9 October 2020, by Ginette

To this end, an exceptional protocol has been put in place to welcome these 902 Moroccan nationals who have come to the aid of farmers who are afraid of losing their crops, explained Didier Leschi, director of the French Office for Immigration and Integration (OFII).

He also stressed that the protocol put in place has been negotiated with the Interministerial Crisis Center (CIC), attached to the Prime Minister, the prefecture of Haute-Corse as well as the Moroccan authorities. He specified that on departure as well as on arrival, the Moroccan workers will be tested for covid-19.

Even if the round-trip flights were financed by the farmers, the OFII had to reach an agreement with the Moroccan authorities to facilitate the movement of the seasonal workers from their places of residence to the airport, since travel between certain cities in Morocco is prohibited, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
