Moroccan Family Refuses to Bury COVID-19 Victim, Sparking Controversy

The Coronavirus has seriously disrupted funeral rites. In Casablanca, the relatives of a man who died from the Covid-19 disease refused to bury him for fear of being contaminated.
This situation has caused consternation in the deceased’s entourage. According to the daily Assabah, the latter, who lived in the Hay Mohammadi neighborhood, left this world leaving behind his wife and a young child.
It is unknown who took care of the funeral ceremony. But the deceased’s family was heavily criticized on social media, especially since this rite is known to be a necessary transition phase for mourning, according to the opinion of psychologists.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Casablanca has been leading the regions most affected by the Coronavirus, with a total of 12,361 cases as of August 18.
