Moroccan Expats Can Sell Cars During Home Visits, Customs Rules Apply

The Moroccan residing abroad (MRE) has every right to sell his vehicle during his vacation in Morocco. We are talking about the 6-month temporary admission period authorized by the Customs services. Two situations arise that the MRE must take into account before drawing up any deed of sale.

Customs authorizes the transfer of ownership in favor of persons residing in Morocco. To do this, of course, you have to pay the duties as well as the taxes and fines due. Attention! You must not exceed the authorized 6-month period, otherwise you will have to pay a fine. To remain in compliance, therefore, do it before the authorized period granted by the Customs services is exceeded.

In the case of a sale to "another non-resident person in the same country", there are conditions to be met. These are listed in the guide published by the Moroccan customs. We list them as they are listed:

• The application must be filed during the validity period of the AT (Temporary Admission);
• The assignee must not have in his charge a motor vehicle whose situation has not been regularized, nor have exhausted his right to the temporary admission regime;
• The assignor and the assignee must reside in the same foreign country;
• The actual presence of the assignor and the assignee.
The last two conditions are not required in the event of a transfer of AT in favor of the owner of the vehicle.

The transfer operation does not, in any case, lead to the extension of the period initially granted to the assignor. The re-export of the vehicle must take place within the regulatory period.
