Moroccan Expatriate Remittances Surge 7.2% to 77.9 Billion Dirhams

Remittances from Moroccans living abroad remain on the rise, according to the latest figures released by the Office des Changes.
Thus, remittances from Moroccans Residing Abroad (MREs) recorded an increase of 7.2%, reaching 77.920 billion dirhams at the end of August 2023, compared to 72.707 billion dirhams in the same period last year.
On the other hand, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) receipts decreased by 23.4%, from 27.722 billion dirhams at the end of August 2022 to 21.237 billion dirhams at the end of August 2023. At the same time, Moroccan Direct Investments Abroad (IDME) increased significantly, reaching 18.211 billion dirhams, compared to 11.805 billion dirhams in August 2022.
Travel receipts are also strongly on the rise, reaching 71.360 billion dirhams at the end of August 2023, an increase of 32.5% compared to the same period in 2022. These receipts also exceed the figures recorded in August 2019. In addition, the surplus in the travel sector reached +54.840 billion dirhams at the end of August 2023, compared to +42.019 billion dirhams a year earlier.
