Moroccan Drone Strike Reportedly Kills Four in Western Sahara

Have Polisario militiamen perished in a Moroccan drone attack? A drone from the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) is said to have targeted a vehicle moving in the Lamhiriz region, east of the security wall, according to media sources affiliated with the Polisario Front. The military operation resulted in the death of four people. It is unknown whether they were civilians or Polisario militiamen who lost their lives in this strike.

These attacks are recurrent east of the wall. The latest coincides with the expected visit of the UN envoy for the Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, to the Tindouf camps, as part of a diplomatic tour aimed at relaunching the political process. According to observers, the situation on the ground in the region reflects new balances since the security operation in El Guerguerat at the end of 2020.

The Royal Armed Forces (FAR) had dislodged elements of the Polisario Front who, since September 2020, had been preventing any passage at the Guerguerate border.
