Moroccan Defender Aguerd Rejects West Ham’s £17M Bid, Extends Rennes Contract

West Ham offered 20 million euros (17 million pounds sterling) to acquire the services of Moroccan international Nayef Aguerd, but the Rennes defender had declined their offer. The 25-year-old player explains the reasons behind the failure of this transfer.
West Ham had offered 20 million euros to acquire the services of Nayef Aguerd. This interest from the English club for the Moroccan international prompted Rennes to weigh in to convince their central defender to stay. His contract with the French club has been extended until the summer of 2025. Nayef Aguerd recently signed a new four-year contract with Stade Rennais, reports The Athletic.
"I told myself that I still had a year to prove myself," explains the one who is seen as one of the best central defenders in Ligue 1. When you are a player, you are under contract, it is the club that chooses (if you stay or if you leave). They didn’t want me to leave, even if I had offers. They chose to extend (my contract) by showing me that I was important for the club, in the locker room. I signed directly and showed that I was part of the project."
The 25-year-old player arrived in August 2020 for 5 M€.
