Moroccan Craft Exports Surge 21%, with US as Top Importer

After difficult periods due to Covid-19, the recovery of the craft sector is confirmed. During the first seven months of the current year, exports of Moroccan craft products have increased by 21%.
This growth corresponds to a turnover of 595.70 MDH against 494.20 MDH, compared to the previous year, indicates the Ministry of Crafts, specifying that almost all products have shown good performance.
In detail, the demand for pottery and stone products has seen a very strong increase, recording a turnover of 180.38 MDH at the end of July, i.e. a market share of 30%, with a ranking in first place in terms of evolution. This is followed by carpet sales, which increased by 131% compared to a year earlier, reaching 121.35 MDH.
Significant progress has also been recorded for wicker products and traditional clothing, whose exports have increased by 42% and 100% respectively, the ministry notes.
By destination country, the United States is in the lead with more than 217.31 MDH, up 62%, and a 36% share in exports of Moroccan craft creations during the period. They are followed by France, with nearly 89.60 MDH of Moroccan craft products imported, up 5%, accounting for 15% during the same period. In addition, more than half of Morocco’s craft exports come from Casablanca, the same source reveals.
