Moroccan Court Sentences Child Killer to Life in Prison for 5-Year-Old’s Murder

The Court of Appeal of Rabat has sentenced the murderer of little Ismail to life imprisonment. He was found guilty of premeditated voluntary manslaughter.
The victim’s father says he is relieved by this verdict. "We were watching the trial on screen, and the final verdict of the court is fair. Thank God, we are satisfied. This is what we hoped for," he told the media.
The facts had taken place in a suburban neighborhood of Salé. Ismail, a 5-year-old boy, had been coldly slit in the throat in November 2019, under the helpless gaze of his older brother. The child was playing in front of the family home when he had been approached by an individual suffering from mental disorders.
After committing his crime, the murderer had fled. But he had been caught by the few witnesses to the scene who had immobilized him before the arrival of the police.
