Moroccan Couple Arrested for Public Kiss During Ramadan, Sparking Controversy

According to Alyaoum24: "the elements of the royal gendarmerie proceeded this Wednesday to the arrest of two individuals who were exchanging kisses inside a car, this in Ifrane Atlas Saghir, around Guelmim".

The source does not specify whether it was day or night... But according to the media Plurielle, it was indeed during the day and: "The young couple was surprised by the two gendarmes as they were exchanging a kiss on the road of the province, in a car that the young man had borrowed from a friend".

This "case" began when the gendarmes received information that a man in his thirties and a woman in her twenties were kissing inside a light vehicle. The gendarmes then went to the scene.

Upon arrival, they caught this couple "in the act" and proceeded to arrest them and place them in custody. Alyaoum24 specifies that they risk a lot according to Article 483 of the Penal Code.

The said article stipulates: "whoever, by his voluntary nudity or by the obscenity of his gestures or acts, commits a public outrage to decency is punished by imprisonment of one month to two years and a fine of 200 to 500 dirhams".
