Moroccan Coach Ammouta Declines National Team Offer, Regragui Remains

Houcine Ammouta said he declined the offer from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation to take over the Atlas Lions in place of Walid Regragui.
In an interview with The Voice media, Houcine Ammouta said he refused the position of coach of the Moroccan national team, in place of Walid Regragui who was ultimately confirmed, despite the early elimination of the Atlas Lions from the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.
The Moroccan technician admitted that he declined the proposal of the Federation president, Fouzi Lekjaa, because he did not feel ready for the position. "I could have become the coach of Morocco, but I refused for personal reasons and I was not mentally ready. But the opportunity will present itself again insha’Allah," he said.
The coach of the Jordanian team achieved the feat of reaching the final of the Asian Cup where they lost to Qatar. Houcine recently announced his intention to resign from his position. But before that, he wants to qualify the Jordanian team for the 2026 World Cup final phase. The former technician of Wydad de Casablanca is attracting the interest of several Gulf countries and Botola clubs.
