Moroccan Chef Transforms Sports Nutrition in England's Elite Teams

Over time, Moroccan chef Omar Meziane has made a name for himself in the sports world in England.

A quality cuisine based on a clever mix of gastronomy and dishes adapted to athletes. This is what Omar Meziane has been offering sports teams in England for over a decade. From 2009 onwards, the Moroccan chef built up a solid reputation. He became the chef for cricket, rugby, football or rowing teams from 2017 to 2022. He effortlessly combines nutrition and sports performance.

Omar cooked for the England under-17 football team during the 2017 World Cup in Seoul. The young English players won the trophy. A great experience that led him to Gareth Southgate. He was part of the Three Lions delegation during the 2018 World Cup in Russia and Euro 2020. The Moroccan chef was involved in the preparations for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, but was no longer part of the English delegation. Instead, he accompanied the England cricket team to Pakistan during their tour covering the period from November to December 2022. Subsequently, Omar joined the Manchester United football club. For over a year now, he has been offering the Mancunians quality menus.

Omar owes his career to his father, who already owned a Moroccan restaurant in the mid-1990s. A family establishment, where recipes are passed down from generation to generation. "I am very motivated by my roots, these North African flavors and textures since I have been working in this sport. We all know what is good for us. It’s about having a good, balanced diet. That means good quality fish, turkey and chicken," he had said in an interview with Goal.com.

And to add: "We mix that with the right amount of carbohydrates and lots of vegetables. Playing two games a week, you have to make sure these players make sure they fill up properly. If they don’t play as often, you have to adjust their consumption, because they don’t burn as many calories. Overall, I know my katsu curry is always a winner with footballers. I think that will be my ultimate legacy to the FA (the English Football Association, ed.)!"
