Moroccan CHAN Squad Begins Training Camp Amid Coach’s Concerns Over Player Readiness

The local players began a 10-day preparation camp on Monday, as part of the 2021 African Nations Championship (CHAN) which will be held in Cameroon. Coach Houcine Ammouta is not satisfied with the level of the players and intends to work to make them perform before the competition.
For this preparation camp, coach Houcine Ammouta has called up 34 players to the Mohammed VI National Football Center in Maamora. In an interview with Al Massae, he expressed his concern about the players who were deprived of a training camp due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
That’s why he only chose players who have participated with their clubs in African competitions. "The specifications of the federation oblige us to win the continental title and repeat the feat of 2018. To achieve this, we are forced to rely on experienced players with an average age of 26," he said.
As part of this competition, Morocco faces Togo on January 18. A match that the coach does not intend to lose. That’s why, among other activities, Ammouta and his technical staff are studying the recordings of matches collected from the internet or Togolese television to try to detect the game strategies of the Togolese Sparrowhawks, the daily reports.
Out of the 34 players called up, only 23 will travel to Cameroon. According to the coach, other players may join this squad if needed.
