Moroccan Boxer Khadija El Mardi Clinches Gold at Women’s World Boxing Championship

Moroccan boxer Khadija El Mardi won the gold medal at the women’s world boxing championship held in New Delhi, defeating Kazakh Kungeibayeva Lazzat.
The Women’s World Boxing Championship brought together more than 320 participants representing 70 countries, including Morocco. In the semifinals, Moroccan champion Khadija El Mardi qualified by dominating Russian Pyatak Diana by unanimous decision of the judges. She had declared at the end of the fight that her goal was to win the gold. Mission accomplished for the Moroccan heavyweight champion who has just achieved her "dreams and those of all Moroccans."
By winning the gold medal against Kazakh Kungeibayeva Lazzat, she becomes the first Moroccan boxer to be crowned world heavyweight champion. Unfortunately for her compatriot Yassmine Moutaqui, she was eliminated in the semifinals by Uzbek Fozilova Farzona.
