Moroccan Border Guards Face Deadly Violence in Migrant Clashes at Melilla

Many Moroccan agents have lost their lives or have been seriously injured while trying to repel the assaults of migrants, said on Monday the colonel of the Civil Guard, Antonio Sierras.
The colonel of the Civil Guard of Melilla confirmed that the Moroccan forces in charge of security at the Melilla fence have recorded "deaths and extremely serious injuries", as a result of the "rare violence" acts of migrants who use "military tactics" to try to cross the border, reported El Faro de Melilla.
"In 2021, there are already more than 60 Civil Guards injured in the assaults on the border perimeter in which migrants do not hesitate to use military tactics in their advance towards Melilla and unusual violence against the Moroccan security forces and also against the Spanish security forces," said Colonel Sierras, while also praising the frank collaboration of Morocco in the surveillance of the fence and the control of migratory flows towards Melilla.
