Clashes Injure 100 Moroccan Officers as 700 Migrants Attempt Melilla Border Crossing

Around a hundred Moroccan agents were injured on Saturday in preventing some 700 migrants from jumping over the Melilla fence.
The migrants, hidden in the woods near the city of Melilla, were about to head towards the border and jump the fence when they were intercepted by the agents who thwarted their plan. The clashes resulted in nearly a hundred injured among the Moroccan agents, reported EFE.

The authorities received information that dozens of people were gathering in Nador and deployed agents on site to strengthen security at the border with Melilla, local sources said, specifying that the sub-Saharan migrants were mostly of Burkinabe, Senegalese and Sudanese nationality.

On their arrival, the agents were "violently attacked" by the migrants who threw stones at them and erected barriers to prevent them from advancing. The injured agents were taken to the El Hassani hospital in Nador for treatment. Some migrants, also injured, received care while others were detained.
