The Moroccan Avocado Breaks All Records

It is a bountiful year for Moroccan "green gold". According to EastFruit data, exports have simply doubled compared to the previous season. Avocado has now become the third pillar of the country’s fruit exports, generating more than 10% of the sector’s foreign exchange, just behind the undefeated mandarins and watermelons. The peak of this campaign was reached in January 2025, when 32,600 tons were shipped - more than the total volume of the entire 2019-2020 season - benefiting from the winter appetite for the Hass variety.

While Europe remains the preserve of Moroccan exporters, with a top trio composed of Spain (35% of volumes), France (25%) and the Netherlands (22%), the map of destinations is rapidly expanding. The highlight of this season is the explosion of sales to the so-called secondary markets, the volume of which has been multiplied by four. Canada, for example, imported more than 1,000 tons compared to barely 70 tons previously. Similarly, shipments to Portugal, Belgium or Italy have experienced exponential growth.

This positive momentum is not limited to avocado. Berries continue their ascent as well: frozen raspberry sales to France reached a historic high in 2025, generating nearly $6 million and allowing Morocco to join the top 5 suppliers to the Hexagon.
