Morocco’s Blueberry Boom: Conquering Canadian Markets
Moroccan blueberries are becoming increasingly popular in Canada. This is evidenced by the latest export figures that have just been published, showing spectacular growth in this market.
According to the specialized portal EastFruit, Morocco shipped 1,900 tons to the Canadian market between July 2024 and June 2025, for a value of more than $19 million. This volume represents "nearly double" the previous season and "seventeen times" that of three years ago.
Morocco is thus carving out a prime spot in an expanding Canadian market, historically dominated by the United States and Peru. The Kingdom’s market share, once negligible, has risen from 0.16% in 2021 to 2.3% in the last season.
This breakthrough is notably due to a strategic positioning in the calendar. Moroccan shipments, which extend from December to June with a peak in April and May, arrive on the Canadian market "between the end of the Peruvian campaign and the beginning of that of the United States." This window allows Morocco to meet demand at a key moment.
For EastFruit, this success in Canada "illustrates Morocco’s rise to the rank of the world’s leading blueberry producers," not only in Europe but now also in North America. The publication also notes that the Kingdom has also reached a record level of exports to the United States during the same period.
