Moroccan Authorities Bust Online Extortion Ring Targeting Female Students

In Safi, elements of the Royal Gendarmerie dismantled a criminal network specializing in the sexual blackmail of female students. They also managed to arrest one of the members of the network.
It all started with a complaint filed by a student who had been a victim of sexual blackmail for a year, reports the Arabic-language daily Assabah. She had met a young man online, who asked her to send him photos and videos of herself. After receiving them, he threatened to post them on social media if she did not send him a large sum of money. That’s when she filed a complaint against him. The elements of the royal gendarmerie in Safi planned the arrest of the blackmailer. The student and he agreed on a meeting. Once the envelope was received, the young man was arrested in the act by the gendarmes.
Other students had also been victims of the sexual blackmail orchestrated by the members of this network in several other cities of the kingdom. The modus operandi is the same. One of the victims was forced to steal money from her parents to send it via specialized agencies to the criminal network to "save her honor".
