Moroccan Actress Faces 3-Month Sentence in Dubai for Indecent Assault

The Criminal Court of Dubai issued a judgment on Thursday, July 25, 2019, against the Moroccan actress Mariem Hussein, on the charge of indecent assault. She was sentenced to 3 months in prison and deportation from the Emirati territory.
The actress is being prosecuted for indecent assault, during the last New Year’s celebrations, in the company of an Emirati artist, Saleh El Jasmi. However, he was acquitted of all charges by the Criminal Court.
According to the lawyer of the Moroccan actress, she was acquitted of two charges. The judgment pronounced by the court is provisional and will be appealed. "Our client will soon be acquitted of the charges against her," he said.
The news of the actress’s arrest has gone viral, and the lawyers of the two parties have been forced to provide clarifications to the general public. Mariam Hussein’s name and her conviction have provoked outrage among Internet users on social media.
