Moroccan actors revolt (video)

Moroccan actors organized a sit-in in front of the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad to demand their financial compensation under the agreements that bind them to the MRE sector, the payment of which is delayed.

Jamal Lababsi, Abderrahim El Meniari, Souad El Nejjar, the playwright Omar El Jadli and other actors who have presented theater performances for the benefit of the Moroccan community residing abroad protested on Friday, September 1 in front of the headquarters of Nasser Bourita’s department, reports Hespress. A year after the theater tour and in the absence of a response to their various letters sent to the Secretariat of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, these actors demand to be paid under the agreements that bind them to the MRE sector. They also denounced the lack of a democratic approach in the settlement of remuneration related to these agreements, and the incomprehensible preference for associations over others.

"As artists, we only ask for our right. In exchange for a service we have rendered, we want our share of the profit. [...] We paid with our own money the costs of air travel, hotel stay and we rented halls for rehearsals and when we finished, we are surprised by people who do not give us our salary," laments Abderrahim El Meniari, a Moroccan actor. He adds: "We have been subjected to procrastination despite providing all the documents, evidence, video tapes, consular documents and invoices indicating that we have submitted the offers."

Faced with this situation, Moroccan actors call on the head of Moroccan diplomacy to intervene in this file. They intend to continue the protest until their claim is satisfied. They say they reject "any reductionist vision of the artist".
