Royal Air Maroc Aims for Profit Recovery with Ambitious 2037 Development Plan

Royal Air Maroc (RAM) plans to generate profits and achieve higher revenues this year, after being severely affected by the Covid-19 health crisis.
The Moroccan airline wants to get back on its feet after three and a half years of crisis during which it suffered losses of more than 6 billion dirhams. Royal Air Maroc is counting on the Development Plan for the 2037 horizon, signed with the Akhannouch government last July, to restore its luster and become the leader of the air transport sector in Africa, said its CEO, Hamid Addou, in an exclusive interview with Jeune Afrique.
This ambitious plan provides for "a fourfold increase in RAM’s fleet - which currently consists of 50 aircraft - in order to serve 143 destinations (compared to 99 today) and transport 31.6 million passengers (compared to 7.44 million in 2019). All for a turnover of 94 billion dirhams (a little more than 8.5 billion euros)."
"Five years ago, we were not a member of the Oneworld alliance, thanks to which we have recorded additional traffic this year... We did not wake up suddenly to say that we wanted to develop the African zone. I remind you that we launched our first African route in 1958, a year after the creation of RAM. It is a DNA that we have built patiently, step by step, without superfluous announcement," he insisted.
Hamid Addou said he was "happy that Royal Air Maroc is a model for another company on the continent," an allusion to Air Algérie, which is fiercely competing with the Moroccan company.
