Moroccan Activists Rally for Released Human Rights Defender in Khénifra

Wednesday 1 January 2020, by Ginette

Two events took place last Sunday in the central square of Aguelmous. First, a ceremony in honor of Saïd Afrid, a human rights activist, released from prison last Thursday. The participants, in collaboration with the Khénifra unemployed coordination, undertook a protest march with the participation of many human rights activists, reports Hespress.

The march was about to turn into a confrontation, when the authorities proposed to the protesters to meet in front of Bouda’s home instead of protesting on the public highway. A reflection that "provoked the anger of the participants", according to an activist who indicated that the protest march ended in front of Bouda’s family home, in the presence of his mother, who greeted the activists for their solidarity.

The protesters also plan to hold a sit-in in front of the court of first instance of Khénifra, on the day of Abdelali Bahmad’s trial.
