Montpellier Midfielder Khalil Fayad Switches Allegiance from France to Morocco National Team

Franco-Moroccan Khalil Fayad, playing as a midfielder at Montpellier HSC, has decided to change his sporting nationality and join the den of the Atlas Lions, after playing for the French team.
"I have the immense honor to announce to you my decision to join the Moroccan national team," Fayad wrote on his Instagram account. The 20-year-old player accompanied his post with a video showing Moroccan fans in ecstasy at the World Cup in Qatar, monuments of Morocco, and a sequence of him wearing the Moroccan jersey.
He will add in the comments: "Looking forward to proudly wearing the colors of our country and defending its values. From now on I am an Atlas Lion, so one watchword: Dima Maghrib." The Montpellier HSC midfielder has fond memories of his time with the Blues. "I will never forget my years with the French national team and I am proud to have worn that blue jersey."
Born on June 9, 2004 in Montpellier, Khalil Fayad has scored three goals in 23 appearances with Montpellier this season. Last season, he failed to score in 24 matches played. With the French team, the new Atlas Lion has played 7 matches with the U-19s and 6 matches with the U-18s.
According to Transfermarkt, Fayad’s market value was 5 million euros last December. The Franco-Moroccan’s contract with Montpellier runs until June 2027.
