Monaco’s Ben Seghir Shines in Ligue 1 Victory Over Le Havre

Thanks to an in-form Eliesse Ben Seghir, Monaco is having a good start to the Ligue 1 season. The Moroccan attacking midfielder is shining with the Monegasques.
For the fifth round of Ligue 1, Monaco beat Le Havre AC (3-1) at the Stade Louis-II on Sunday, September 22, 2024. A victory to which Ben Seghir, in great form, contributed. Found by Singo in the axis at the entrance of the Le Havre area, the Moroccan midfielder positions himself on his right foot and unleashes a superb curled shot that lodges in the top corner of Desmas, beaten on his left. It was the Monegasques’ second goal, scored in the 66th minute of play. A beautiful shot qualified as "The Special" by the teammates of the Moroccan international. It was his second goal of the season.
Last season had been difficult for Ben Seghir due to persistent hamstring and shoulder injuries. He was rarely a starter. "Last season was very difficult for me. I’m not really used to being injured and away from the pitch," he told the sports daily L’Equipe. "I took it very badly. But thanks to the staff, the coach and my teammates, I regained my form." The young player had taken advantage of his absence to work on his strength and physical condition. "At first, I was maybe a bit fragile," he said. "I became stronger, I bulked up a bit (and) I tried to work on my weaknesses."
Ben Seghir’s physical improvement has also benefited the Moroccan national team. Lined up for his first game with the Atlas Lions in June, he scored his first goal for the selection against Zambia (2-1). A starter against Congo (6-0), he provided an assist, allowing his teammate Azzedine Ounahi to open the scoring. The player fills the lack of offensive animation, one of the reasons that justify the poor performances of the Moroccan team - in particular the early elimination at the CAN Ivory Coast 2023 - after its historic run at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
With a good start to the season, the 19-year-old player will certainly continue to impress. "In a longer Champions League format, Ben Seghir should have many more opportunities to impress," estimates Daily Mail.
