AC Milan’s Yacine Adli Defends French Team Choice, Urges Algeria to Emulate Morocco’s Recruitment

Yacine Adli, the Fiorentina midfielder, caused controversy in March by choosing to represent the French national team rather than Algeria, the country of origin of his parents. He explains it today, taking the example of Morocco.
While still awaiting his first call-up with the Blues, the player returned to this decision during an interview with the streamer Zack Nani.
Trained in France, Adli has climbed the ranks of the youth teams up to the U20s. For him, joining the French A team represents "a logical continuation" and "the Holy Grail". However, he explains that his choice could have been different if the Algerian Federation had shown its interest earlier. "Morocco approaches players very early, Algeria does it a little but on a smaller scale," he observed.
His remarks provoked mixed reactions in Algeria, especially when he mentioned his desire to "play at the highest level", implying that Algeria would not allow him to do so. Adli wanted to clarify his intentions, stating that he had never wanted to denigrate Algeria. "For me, the French team is the Holy Grail in my career, but that doesn’t mean Algeria isn’t high-level," he specified. "If people took it the wrong way, I apologize, I’m one of the biggest supporters of Algeria."
