Migrant Killed in Hit-and-Run on Belgian Highway, Suspected Attempt to Cross

A migrant was violently hit by a vehicle that fled the scene. This happened during the night from Friday to Saturday on the highway at the Bourgambray rest area in Belgium.
Around 3 a.m., the emergency services of the Wallonia Picarde area discovered the lifeless body of a man lying at the level of the disused Bourgambray rest area. It was a motorist who reported having noticed a dark mass on the road.
According to the first information, the death was caused by a violent impact. The absence of identification on the victim, added to the fact that he was wearing several layers of clothing, suggest that it was a migrant trying to cross the highway in a poorly lit area, reports dhnet.be.
The case is being investigated by Judge Véronique Hanton, for involuntary manslaughter and hit-and-run. If the police manage to identify the driver, he risks up to two years in prison.
