Moroccan Fugitive's 9-Year Run Ends After Slip-Up in France

Fouad Dian, 33, detained since 2015 in Belgium and Haudainville, was finally arrested in May in the Bordeaux region. At the Verdun court, the judge decided to keep him in prison until April 2024.

He may have used subterfuges to avoid serving his sentence, but only a small detail will put an end to his flight. Without financial and logistical means, Fouad Dian, this 33-year-old Moroccan, imprisoned since 2010, took advantage of a permit to flee the Montmédy detention center, reports L’Est Républicain. This will be the beginning of a mad flight that will take him to Belgium and Haudainville. In his race, he will commit ten blunders (repeat theft, theft with violence, attempted theft, etc.) in the space of two days (from April 28 to 30, 2015).

First, he steals a car in Saint-Dizier, goes to Libin, Belgium. Then Fouad Dian robs a bread dispenser and unsuccessfully tries to break into three houses, all occupied, we are told. In a fourth home, he forgets his pair of socks. With a DNA test, the police manage to identify him. But the man with 24 convictions continues his flight. He arrives in Haudainville, holds up a retired couple with a hatchet, before being arrested on May 13 in the Bordeaux region.

After his arrest, Fouad Dian was incarcerated at the Saint-Martin-de-Ré prison. At the Verdun court, the judge decided to keep him in prison until April 2024, then sentenced him to pay 4,500 euros to the Haudainville couple.
