Mexican Textile Industry Shifts to Moroccan Yarn Amid China Supply Challenges

Moroccan yarn is in high demand by entrepreneurs in the Mexican textile sector, specialized in the manufacture of sweaters, who are facing a shortage of yarn due to the situation in China, their main producer.
The Mexican textile sector is facing a shortage of yarn due to the relatively long time (5 months) it takes to transport containers of this raw material from China, and also due to the rise in prices in countries like Portugal and Turkey, said Hermez Alejandro Villafuerte Juárez, president of the National Chamber of the Textile Industry.

Mexican entrepreneurs are "very concerned about the issue of rising prices (30% compared to 2021) of raw materials," he said, stressing that the only way to solve the problem is to see with the government how to import the yarn directly, without an intermediary. "We will finalize the project and submit it to the government," he added.
