Melilla Residents Cross into Morocco for Eid al-Adha Amid Sheep Shortage

Thousands of Melillenses are going to Morocco for the Eid al-Adha feast, due to the shortage of sheep to sacrifice in Melilla.
While a serious shortage of lambs is shaking Melilla, it is forbidden, on the part of the PSOE central government and the regional tripartite formed by the CPM, the PSOE and the CS, to bring sheep from Morocco to this city.
At least 6,000 lambs are needed to meet the needs of all the families celebrating Eid el-Kebir. However, only 3,000 have arrived from the peninsula, forcing thousands of Melilla residents to cross the border to be able to celebrate the holiday, in accordance with their traditions and rites, reports the Spanish website Melilla Hoy.
Due to the ongoing "Paso del Estrecho" Operation, which has mainly generated long queues, especially at border posts, this situation offered itself as the only alternative for the inhabitants of Melilla, who were forced to go to Morocco to sacrifice the sheep. This situation, which is observed almost every year, is described as an annual "exile" for the holiday by many Melillenses.
