Melilla Port Seeks Trade Ties with Algeria Amid Morocco Border Closure

The port of Melilla is preparing to carry out a mission in Algeria to establish trade links with this country in order to limit the adverse effects of the prolonged closure of the borders with Morocco.
The objective of this mission is to carry out a commercial prospecting in Algeria and to establish contacts with importers and exporters of the commercial cities of Oran and Ghazaouet, reports El Estrecho Digital.
The president of the port authority, Victor Gamero Garcia, has exchanged with the Melilla business community, the Confederation of Entrepreneurs (CEME) and the Merchants’ Association (ACSEMEL) on the critical economic situation of the port and the city and the need to implement an economic recovery and commercial revitalization plan.
The Spanish exports of manufactured products, textiles and agri-food to Algeria have increased gradually in recent years, Gamero Garcia said, specifying that the two countries are developing together more than a hundred projects in the agri-food, soap, paper, marble, footwear and consumer goods sectors.
This "multisectoral commercial" mission to Algeria is of particular importance in that it should lead to the establishment of a shipping line with this country in the short term to facilitate the supply of products, the president of the Port Authority added, stressing that medium-term actions are also envisaged to boost Melilla’s economy.
