Melilla Plans Maritime Links to Morocco’s Nador, Boosting Trade and Travel

The President of the Port Authority of Melilla, Víctor Gamero, announces a project for two maritime links to serve the port of Beni Nsar in Nador. The shipping company that will be selected will separately ensure the transport of goods and passengers.
The first line, reserved for the transport of goods, will be used to transport fresh products: fish, fruits and vegetables, as well as all other products, the price of which has increased following the closure of land borders with Morocco, which has forced the city to import from the Iberian peninsula, said Mr. Gamero at a press conference last Friday. The second line is reserved for passenger transport. A ship with a capacity of 350 people will provide this link.
According to the official, these lines will help alleviate the pressure on the land border and offer better conditions for the transport of perishable products. A shipping company would already be interested in these lines and is said to be willing to mobilize one to five ships in less than two days, provided it obtains the green light from the Moroccan and Spanish authorities, he added.
