Melilla Businesses Alarmed by Nador Port's Growing Influence and Spanish Government's Silence

Melilla operators are not happy with the rapprochement between Andalusian ports and the port of Nador. The Confederation of Entrepreneurs of the enclave made it known during a press conference. These operators have stated that such collaboration is detrimental.

In addition to the damage that the good neighborly relationship between the Andalusian ports and that of Nador, of which the operators complained during their media outing, they also found it curious the "silence" of the Spanish authorities in the face of the decision of the Moroccan authorities to end the activities of the commercial customs at Beni Ansar.

According to LesEcos.ma, the Melilla employers’ association even claimed that the Spanish government is focusing more of its energy on Rabat’s interests than fighting for the well-being of the enclave’s operators.

José Reyes, President of the Melilla Employers’ Association, according to the site, has clearly explained that behind the silence of the authorities are negotiations with the Port of Nador to transport goods there, without having to go through Melilla. The entrepreneurs even criticized the investments made by Spain in Morocco. "We are abandoned to our fate," they complain.

To safeguard Spanish interests, the operators demand the immediate halt of the negotiations between Rabat and Madrid which, according to them, are a waste of time.
