Mélenchon Praises Morocco’s Earthquake Response, Urges France to Reassess Relations

During a visit to the areas affected by the September 8 earthquake in Morocco, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of La France insoumise, invited France to review its attitude, referring to Morocco’s efficient and supportive management of the disaster.
Referring to the controversy over Morocco’s refusal of French aid, the left-wing leader said: "Morocco has come out of it admirably."
This tour of Mélenchon in Morocco comes in a context of strained relations between Paris and Rabat. On the program: Marrakech, then Rabat, Casablanca and finally Tangier, his city of birth. Meetings with Moroccan and French political figures are planned.
In Amizmiz, south of Marrakech, where many victims have found refuge under tents, Mélenchon witnessed the resumption of classes despite the circumstances. The students have returned to school under temporary shelters.
